Japanese Life and Love: Seen Through Our Eyes

Mamy’s First Outdoor Adventure

After settling into our home, Mamy—our beloved cat—was finally ready for a little sunshine and a walk. We let her explore outside for the first time, and she was absolutely thrilled. For about an hour, she enjoyed her newfound freedom, wandering happily while I tracked her by the gentle jingling of the bell on her collar.

But one day, she came back limping. Perhaps she had a run-in with a crow—her right paw was injured. She kept licking it, but over the next few days, the swelling worsened and she began to hobble.

We took her to the vet, who treated the wound and prescribed oral medication. We were told to come back for follow-up visits. Mamy, terrified by the unfamiliar smells and sounds of the clinic, tried her best to escape from the examination table. But the vet, a true professional, gently and swiftly completed the treatment, saying with a smile, “Well done, you were so brave!”

We also had her tested for infections and did a full blood check. Since we hadn’t enrolled her in any pet insurance, the medical bill was a bit steep. Still, for Mamy—who had no immunity to the outside world—it was a valuable experience.
